Welcome to the Entrepreneur Mom blog. I’m Aliza, your host, and yes, I’m an entrepreneur and a mom. I started 3 of the 4 businesses that I’ve owned in the past prior to having a baby. My latest business - Moonbow Productions, Inc. - has been through the baby ringer, and I’ll be sure to talk a little about that because I know many of you are going through that right now.
My blog posts will be one part how-to and two parts “been there, done that” anecdotes and advice (from me and other entrepreneur moms) with hopefully a healthy dash of humor.
To give you a quick rundown of my past businesses:
1. Cybergrrl, Inc. - This was the first woman-owned, full-service Internet company that I started in January 1995 in New York City. We offered Web site design, online content development services, Web hosting, online marketing and also published 3 web sites of our own for women. At our peak, we had over 25 employees and a half dozen interns. I learned all about hiring, firing, and managing - the hard way. I also did the venture capital rounds and learned the fine art of the dog & pony show.
2. Eviva.net - A bilingual Web site and online community geared toward Latina professionals. Although we did land angel funding to launch, it was moments before the Internet bust so we pulled the plug before going into too much debt. This was a lesson in failure due to circumstances beyond your control.
3. Big Horn Marketing - I ran this PR and marketing firm while living in Wyoming and traveled around the state teaching and consulting. This was a small, flexible business where I learned how to be a successful company of one.
4. Moonbow Productions, Inc. - My husband and I started this company to encompass our creative work and my consulting. We’re a media production company including radio, tv/film and a lot of Internet-related strategic services. I’ve been learning how to manage family and work with this business - and not always succeeding.
So there you have my entrepreneurial life in a nutshell!
I look forward to hearing from you and meeting you online. So don’t be shy - introduce yourself and tell us about your company - or your company-to-be.

Hi!
I’m Annemarie and I’m known as “The Refreshing Life Coach!” and the “Motivation Queen.”
For as long as I can remember,I loved helping friends, family and co-workers with everything from relationships, kids, relaxation, creativity sparks, self-esteem and more! I love to help
Since my special needs little guy has endless needs, I realized I needed to do something besides get carpel tunnel from applying for hard-to-get grants, etc. (although he does have some cool ones!).
I looked at my qualifications, hobbies, and figured out where my passion was and it landed on life coaching… I LOVE IT!!
Without this little angel in my life, I would have never discovered how much I enjoyed life coaching and how to find that inner strength inside.
I’m looking to expand my life coaching and I would soooo much appreciate your advice, suggestions and sending ladies my way who are looking for life coaching that is totally personalized.
When you have a moment, please check out my website: www.egoimpact.com and let me know how you like it!
THANK YOU!!
Best wishes,
Annemarie

As a home daycare provider, I suppose I’m an entrepreneur of sorts - but not of the sort you are! However, I have learned lots about the value of a good contract, interacting with difficult clients, clear communication, establishing fees, etc.
Now I’m looking to move from daycare to a career in freelance writing. I have NO IDEA yet what that will look like - I’m still in the research stage - but I’m thinking some of the ideas and insights from this blog will be applicable to the pursuit and development of my new career.
I’ll be back!

I am a prosecutor of child abuse and sex crimes in New York City and the mother of two. While on maternity leave last year, I founded a site called www.HowsMyNanny.com. Through this site, parents can now purchase a license plate for their stroller that enables the public to anonymously report good or bad nanny observations. Registered parents receive a confidential email alerting them to the report.
I am really excited as the site has been working. Parents are receiving the reports and children are receiving the benefits.
I started a second site to fund the first one while it was getting started. It is still up and running and keeping me busy when I least expect it. Check out www.thepoemlady.com the next time you don’t know what to get that special person who has eveything.

Hi,
My name is Jonathan and I enjoyed reading your Blog. I wanted to share a great story with you; well it is actually 8 stories about successful Latinas who from scratch made millions in business. The stories are highly inspirational and would be a great topic here in you blog. The first story is Mrs. Maria de Lourdes Sobrino’s story, how she began by making gelatins in her kitchen and now even sells to Walmart. Quite extraordinary.
The 8 stories are all in a book that is coming out this month, Thriving Latina Entrepreneurs in America and you can read that first story here: http://www.wbusinessbooks.com/pdf/thriving-latina-sample.pdf Hope it helps your blog or maybe even you personally.
Thanks and best of luck.
Joana
