Milk and Cookies
Posted by milkandcookies on September 19th, 2007

Man, writing the very first post in a new blog can be so intimidating. I mean, you never get a second chance to make a first impression, or however the deodorant commercial goes. What if I totally biff it? What if I use a stupid 80’s slang term like “biff”, which TextEdit is convinced I’m spelling wrong? What if I include a series of lame rhetorical questions in the very first paragraph and I just nervously go on and on and on and alienate every single last one of you? O, WHAT THEN?

You know what, let’s just move on before I sprain something. Hi! My name is Linda, although I will also respond to “MOMMMYYYYY!” and “Pardon me, ravishing stranger, but may I gift you with this giant container of Sea Salt Caramels?” (sure, I haven’t technically had any experience with that last one, but just like the Girl Scouts, I am always prepared). I live in the Seattle area with my husband JB and our 2-year-old son Riley, where I work part-time for a software company and do freelance writing on the side. We are expecting our second child in late January, because we are insane.

Twice a week, I’ll be publishing entries here at Work It, Mom! focused on cool products, time-and-sanity-saving resources, and calls for idea sharing on common working-mom challenges. The idea is for this to be a place that’s fun to visit as well as being, you know, all useful and stuff.

I’m definitely no expert in the field of parenting or work/life balance or virtually any subject that doesn’t involve quoting “Raising Arizona”, but I do have a passion for finding Good Things—in this case, Good Things that hopefully also appeal to you, dear readers—and sharing them.

I’m interested in digging up the best stuff that makes a working mom’s life just a little sweeter, from ways to improve your commute to finding toys for your kids that don’t suck, and I’m even more interested in hearing back from you as we go along. Please feel free to say hi, or request specific topics, or point out the many embarrassing typos I’m liable to include.

Okay, introductory stuff over! Next up: actual blog content. Our subject for next time is relaxation, and I’ve got some awesome de-stressers that I’ve personally road-tested and highly recommend. Come visit, it will be like a web-based full body massage! Um, with less nudity.

Great new blog! Can I be the first to point out one of those typos you mentioned? In the first line, you say “intimating” when I think you mean “intimidating.” :)

Now you should feel free to come to my blog and point out all of my typos. I won’t blame you. (insert blushing shame face here)

    Thanks!

  • Josh says:

So, Milk & Cookies huh? As long as it isn’t Milk and Cereal, possibly the most annoying song ever recorded, or thought of, or not yet thought of but possibly thought of in the future. I digress.

As a potential future mother-maker I am siked out that someone as cool as you is helping the needy with your endless insight and impossibly up-to-the-minute knowledge on all things kick ass. All things mothering-related kick ass that is. For a little relaxation you might want to look into the Silver Bullet, Jack Rabbit, or Sybian. All of which have been highly recomended to me by the crazy ass receptionist at my work who lacks the ability to censor the filth that spews from her mind. (I mean really, who talks like that *sarcasm, cause I do*)

Seriously though, “Fruit on the Bottom” yogurt is insanely delishious. And never tell anyone I ever said that because I have a reputation to keep up. For real.

Linda, you rock, of course, and this blog will no less be entertaing as all the others before have been. Not to all readers, if you don’t want your faces rocked off then run to the hills. (run for your lives) (guess what I’m listening to)

  • Josh says:

Oh yeah, and your head shot … not as cheesy as you hinted at. But I would have picked one with you wearing a pirate eye-patch and holding an explosive knife in your golden teeth … with spiked pink hair.

Wat can I say, I’m an old fashioned guy.

And that was a NOTE to all readers, since you brought up typos. Mine just happened to completely change the meaning of the sentence. My bad. You rock to everyone. (everyone cool)

  • Super Sarah says:

Hey! Love the new blog and I am looking forward to learning all sorts of clever new ways to parent more efficiently!

  • erin says:

Yay! My vote for the title won! I am looking forward to reading your posts on this blog. I plan on adding it to my Blogroll. Congrats!

  • Jennifer says:

OMFG your picture makes you look like a fitness model about to tell me how to shape and tone my glutes - so pretty!

i seriously don’t know how you find the time to maintain your blogs, work, mother and deal with your remodel, but i’m so glad there’s more of you to read!

  • Jem says:

To paraphrase everyone else, yay more Sundry!

  • Vanda says:

Droping by or is that dropping by? Anyway, wanted to say Hi and to wish you goood luck.

Love the name by the way.

  • Niki P. says:

Hi! Love the first, love the second and I know I will love the third.

One thing.. Where in the hell do you find the time to write as much as you do every stinking day?

  • diane says:

Another reader saying Hi and yay for more Linda to read!

  • ollka says:

yay for the new blog! yay for the great title! i’ll be coming back here for sure.

  • amber s says:

Sooo you say we can request specific topics…Have you ever used those “Pee-pee Tee-pees” on your son? Just curious if they work or are just a giant waste of money ;-)

  • Amber says:

Um, hi. This is me, feeling like a teensy bit of an ass for saying ‘milk and cookies? no way!’. Was it a majority rules kind of thing, or did you just want me to shut up? :) PS, that photo is so not lame.

  • Drink My Piss says:

    Drink My Piss…

Sorry, it just sounds like a crazy idea for me :)…
