“Fashion fades, only style remains the same.” Coco Chanel
There are few simple rules for being stylish: wear what works for you, and what fits; think about your body and your life and your own specific taste. Don’t follow the trends just because everyone else is, but don’t discount trends entirely — make them part of your own personal look. Shop your closet before you shop the mall, keep your underwear out of sight, and save those flip flops for the pool.
Otherwise, it’s pretty much up to you.
This is my last post at The Working Closet. I could tell you all about how I am trying to find a better balance in my work and personal life, to measure what I do for a living and how I actually live, but I know that you are all familiar with that dilemma. So I will just say this: I have loved working here, both at The Working Closet and at Work It, Mom! I have loved being part of this community, and I will miss it terribly. I have been impressed, over and over, by the kindness and civility you have all shown me and each other, by the way you are able to disagree without stooping to attacks, and by the way you have responded to the very few commenters who have not used their best manners. I have enjoyed your comments and emails and the posts you have written about your lives and your closets.
I am leaving The Working Closet in excellent hands; the incomparable Sarah James will be taking over, starting shortly. I can’t imagine anyone I would rather have in charge of my closet — real or virtual — than Sarah, and I can’t wait to read her advice.
The Working Closet blog will continue on, but I will be elsewhere. Thank you for making this such a success.

*pout*
Wonderful luck with the life-balance thing. If you figure that one out, could you come back with a few tips for the rest of us?!
I miss your advice already…

I first found you via WIM, and I will miss you here, Susan - but I do know other places to find you :-)! Good luck with whatever comes next for you.

I also really enjoyed your column. I’m not a mom, but a working woman and find your advice very applicable.
Best of luck in the quest for balance! We will miss you.

Thanks for a great column, Susan! I’ve always enjoyed reading it, even if my real-life fashion is more slapped together than put together. Best of luck with your next ventures!

You’re a class act and I’ll miss your writing here — but I’ll be hanging out in your other haunts.
(I give you credit with giving me guts to try skinny jeans, which I now love. Bet you didn’t know that, right?)
