What's the last creative project you did with your kids?
I see cooking as a creative art, so I will have to say making a simple chocolate cake last weekend. Both Lara (6) and Josh (10) like to draw and paint--especially Josh. But once I say, "I'm gonna bake...(whatever)," they both practically trip on top of each other to see who gets to the kitchen first.
Metabolism seems to run high until I ask them if they've washed their hands. Their consistent reply is droopy head and shoulders as if I've said they couldn't help bake. I didn't know washing hands before cooking/baking was the equivalent to, "No you can't help!" Is it because once they drag their feet to the bathroom, I remind them to use soap, warm water and then, "...I can tell when you haven't done that" ? Maybe.
They still come out happy and satisifed after helping cook and bake. At least they kind of understand how to look beyond their "struggle": they're eager to eat the results!
