Summer is here and with it comes all the household responsibilities associated with hot weather and this time of year. There are so many ways to make your home a better place to be during the summer months, and most of them revolve around staying cool and clean during the hottest and dirtiest time of the year. Moms have a particularly tough time achieving this universal task because they have to consider the actions of their little rascals who will inevitably track dirt into the house at least a dozen times per week. Safeguarding the home from childhood mayhem is a challenge in and of itself, let alone trying to think of ideas to improve your home. Forget about improvising, as a mom you're just trying to protect the nice things you have from the unstoppable mischief that is your children. We know how you feel, so to help give you some inspiration to do more with your home this summer, here are some great season home improvement tips to try out:

1. Get Rid of Pest Infestations

Pest infestations can become particularly nasty during the summer months as the heat makes houses very conducive to the breeding and proliferation of almost every species. Thus, it's a good idea to go ahead and address your pest concerns at the beginning of the summer to make sure you're not confronted by a serious problem during the later months. According to Go-Forth Pest Control of Greensboro, dealing with infestations before the height of summer will ensure that you're able to completely eradicate the problem so that it doesn't persist through the winter and into next year. If the infestation survives the winter and comes back then you'll be paying for eradication services twice unnecessarily.

2. Have Faulty Air Conditioners Repaired or Replaced

If an air conditioner has been performing sluggishly lately or turning on and off, it might be time to call in a specialist to see about replacing or repairing the unit. Wall units are particularly easy to replace, and even though they're a bit heavy for most moms, if you can get a few helping hands you can have one installed in a matter of minutes and they're not that expensive either. Even if you're using a central air system, if it's not working properly, wall unit replacements are a quick and affordable option for rooms with windows.

3. Inspect the Windows and Doors

Windows that aren't properly sealed could be letting cold air out and hot air in. Thus, to ensure your home is properly weatherized for the summer it's a good idea to go ahead and check the windows and doors to see if you can feel any drafts of air where the window meets the sill. If so, a simple caulking should seal those cracks right up, which should give your AC a helping hand during the hottest times of the day. Fixing and sealing windows is a relatively easy job that almost anyone can perform on a DIY basis, so don't worry about whether you'll need exceptional handyman skills – a few YouTube videos and a tube of caulk should be sufficient.
