What is Wonderlic Test?

The Wonderlic Personnel Test (formerly referred to as the Wonderlic Cognitive Ability Test) is a popular group intelligence test used to assess the potential of prospective workers for problem-solving and learning in a range of jobs. The Wonderlic is offered in 12 unique languages and is frequently utilized in college, entry-level jobs, and team-making efforts. It is made up of 50 multiple choice questions to be answered in 12 minutes.

The evaluation was created by Eldon F. Wonderlic Test. The rating is calculated as the number of responses given in the allotted time. A rating of 20 is intended to indicate average intellect (corresponding to an intelligence quotient of 100). Wonderlic, Inc. claims a minimal score of 10 points indicates a man or woman will be literate.


A new variant was released in January 2007 known as the Wonderlic Contemporary Cognitive Ability Test (previously referred to as the Wonderlic Personnel Test-Revised), comprising questions more suitable for the 21st century; it is accessible both online and in printed form, whereas the initial evaluation is only available on paper. The Wonderlic test was based on another test called the Otis Self-Administering Test of Mental Ability.

History OF Wonderlic Test

Produced in 1936 by E. F. Wonderlic, the Wonderlic Personnel Test was the first short-form cognitive skills test. It was developed to measure overall cognitive ability in the areas of mathematics, language, and reasoning. Wonderlic made and distributed it as a grad student in the psychology department at Northwestern University out of his house.

Regarding the time to take the evaluation, Eldon F. Wonderlic, in an essay published in 1939, stated that the following:"The period of the test was created such that just about two to five percent of ordinary groups complete the test in the twelve-minute time limit.

Throughout World War II, the Navy started using the Wonderlic Personnel Test to Choose applicants for pilot training and navigation. From the 1970s Tom Landry, trainer of the Dallas Cowboys, was the first to use the Wonderlic Personnel Test to predict player performance.

 It's still used in the yearly NFL Combine for a kind of pre-draft assessment. In short, it tries to screen candidates for specific jobs in the shortest possible time. It could be termed as a fast IQ test.

The Wonderlic test is constantly being upgraded with repeated tests of queries. There are currently 30 tests provided by Wonderlic, Inc.

Similar to additional standardized evaluations, the Wonderlic Cognitive Ability Test introduces its questions in an open answer format that becomes increasingly more difficult as one advances through the test.
