Becoming a mother is probably one of the most life altering events in a woman's life, and the learning curve that immediately follows is steep, to say the least. When I gave birth to my son, I felt more than a little overwhelmed by the immense amount of information being thrown at me by in-laws, and friends and nurses and doctors. I knew I wanted to do what was best for my new baby, but understanding just exactly what that looked like proved to be a little complicated. There was a lot of trial and error in the first months of motherhood, as I'm sure is true of any first time mommy's new role. But in that trial and error, I came across some all-natural remedies that actually worked, solutions for my newborn baby's most frustrating ailments, and I could feel confident that I was soothing his discomfort without shocking his system or exposing him to unsafe elements. Read my 4 favorite natural remedies and solutions for newborns and share some of your own, below!

1. Colic: Nothing is more frustrating and heartbreaking than a baby with tummy troubles. When my son was wiggling in pain and crying hysterically, the only thing that worked was Wellements Organic Gripe Waterhttp://wellementsbaby.com/

2. Clogged Tear Duct/Eye Infection: Since he was born, one of my son's eyes had a tendency of getting clogged, and backed up. It would get red and puffy and he would be physically bothered by it- itching and rubbing it constantly. It might sound a bit cooky, but every time his eye starts to look irritated like an infection is coming on, I rinse it with breast milk and the redness and irritation literally disappears within the hour! Breast Milk is truly the stuff of miracles.

3. Swollen Gums from Teething: Every baby is going to get teeth, and pretty much every baby is going to be experience some discomfort while getting them. When my son started getting his, around 4 months, I tried teething toys, frozen wash cloths, warm wash cloths, teething biscuits...I tried it all, and nothing seemed to work, except Hyland's Homeopathic Baby Teething gel. It is the only Benzocaine free, all natural teething gel that I would trust to put in his mouth, and it actually worked. Life saver! http://www.hylandsbaby.com/

4. Thrush: Also known as yeast, getting an overgrowth of thrush is a real bummer. When I came down with an infection, I knew he'd get it too, and I was right. His tongue turned white and he struggled to nurse. I just rubbed a little Jarrow Formula's Baby Jarro-Dophilus powder around his cheeks and tongue and the thrush cleared up in no time! http://www.jarrow.com/
