Boston vacation vs FL vacations
Well, I've decided not to go to Boston in November. Was going to accompany my husband there when he attends a conference...me and my kiddo, of course. I was SO looking forward to it...until I started calculating all the costs involved--air tickets, activities, food, and boarding our pets. Hmm. And it hit me: it's too much for a 4-5 day vacation. Sigh. Big disappointment. I love Boston, miss New England, and, hey, I could've squeezed in a visit with Work it, Mom's Nataly and Lylah. All that I am giving up. Aww!!
But I'm actually happy with the decision. Realized that, hey, we live in FLORIDA. I totally take it for granted, living in a state that people flock to on vacation. It hit me that after three years in Georgia and three years in Florida, we still don't know this area all that well. Okay, we traveled a lot in coastal Georgia (gorgeous!) pre-baby. But now...we barely make it to the beach.
I swear, that is going to change. We've discussed it and agreed: the money we would have spent on the Boston trip will be funnelled into shorter trips down here to places in FL we haven't seen before. Starting with -- ta da! -- I have booked us for 3 nights at the beach in December at a MUCH sought after state park--yes, they are booked solid through December!! And we are going to take a three day trip to visit historic St Augustine in August. Yay!
These little plans have really perked me up the last few days. It has given me something fun to look forward to. I think we've been in a routine rut and this is a good move. And who knows, we'll probably end up back in the NE one day and then I'll be like: why didn't I take more beach vacations when we lived in Florida -- was I CRAZY?!
