I Am Concerned!

I am a newly single parent of a 15 year old wonderful son. My husband and I are seperated which is an experience out of this world!. I have been in Banking for 15 years....8 of those in a Leadership role. The past 2 years with my former employer had been the most stressful of my career......12-14 hour days, working nights, weekends. I had many sleepless night, migranes, and other health issues. I couldnt keep up this pace and knew I was going to break anyday. Then comes the news that my position was being eliminated.....what a reward for my long hours and hard work over the past few years. My spirit had suffered a beating so I gave 2 weeks notice and left. Now I am looking for a job and am afraid that I could loose what I spent so many years working for(my home, car, stability for my son) as no one is responding to my resume. The stress I experience now is a different kind of stress. Just looking for words of encourgement, advice, etc....Thanks for letting me vent.

In the meantime when not job searching which should be at least 25 -30 hours of your week. Try to spend some time doing those things you wished you had time for. I try to spend more time with my children, reading and getting projects actually completed. Reading for me has been the best way to cope with the stress.
Good Luck!!!!

Best of luck with the job search, not sure if you are already doing this, but if I were in that situation I would be constantly working on my resume, re-doing and perfecting it every day. If no one responds to the resumes you sent out, try creating different versions: not only chronological, but also project-based. If you've been with the same company for many years functional type of resume might be a good idea. Also having this huge experience try creating 3-4 different resumes, I am not in the banking industry so it's difficult to suggest, but focus on one analytical aspect, another on sales-oriented, project-management oriented and then once you see the appropriate opportunity align the resume with the requirements of the position. Invest into a resume critique from a reputable site like Linked In or Higher Bracket. Also one idea that really helped me - not all companies will advertise their positions in major job search engines, especially the executive positions. Spend a day and align 10-15 ideal companies that you'd like to work for, using whatever criteria. Do thorough research on their website most major companies will have contact information for their executives and HR office. Send your resume and a great cover letter, make sure it is customized to company's industry, possible challenges and send them off. Once again best of luck and keep us posted. Maria
