Balancing Jobs and Failure
Posted 3rd September 2008 by oldmom
It seems to me that as a working mother I am always subject the the criticism of mothers who work at home (don't we all?) and my colleagues at work who don't understand my life. I just cannot get it all right! I'm a democrat, yet I am incredibly sympathetic with the challenges Palin has faced in the past few days. Who would want their 17-year-old daughter to be pregnant? Moreover, who would want their child to be made a poster-child for pro-life (or pro-abortion)? On the other hand, when our children display vulnerability--too peer pressure, to problems in school, to their own issues--how can we ever not take some responsibility? I have placed my family before opportunities to advance my job because I am committed to my family first (is this family values?). I don't think I could ever do what Sarah Palin is doing. Sorry.
