Confessions of a suburban mom: The grocery store has become the place for "me time."

Why is it that the tiny bit of time us moms actually get we usually go to the store. Is it because just the thought of being able to actually shop and focus on what we are buying is something unheard of? Is it because we don't have to worry about trying to keep our kids entertained while we just go in for milk? Is it because we hate being surprised at how much we spent only to realize once we get home there were items that were snuck in the cart by your 8 year old? Truly, I think it is secretly our getaway place. By going to the store with no kids we can actually go up and down every aisle actually taking the time out to buy healthy, read labels, think of new things to make that's not spaghetti or tacos . . . or in my case, new things to microwave. I have found that when I have had the option to go to the store by myself I end up staying for like 2 hours! It's sad but true, the grocery store really has become my "me time" place, almost like a mini vacation! Whatever happened to going to get a pedicure or shopping . .. oh yeah, our economy tanked and we can no longer afford the "luxuries" that make us moms happy for that brief second. That's ok, for now I can multi-task. I get the grocery shopping done in peace AND I get my "me time."
