How do you network at work?

  One of my million zillion 'want to dos' for 2008 is more networking - at work! anyone have any advice on HOW to do this or any success (or failure!) stories to share? i get along with upper/senior management, just not sure how to turn that acquaintanceship into career success... ideas?

  I network more with professional colleagues in the area, not necessarily with the people I work with. It's nice to have colleagues outside work with whom I can talk freely. Check into professional associations with local chapter, local leads groups and local women in business groups as a starting point.
