Can you share any advice with fellow professional moms?
The full on career can wait until your child is four or five or more. You don’t want to miss anything because you only have one childhood in which to help your child grow. If you work, try some creative ways to make sure you get more flexible time so you can be there for your child. Life can be fulfilling in many ways and not all through how fat and fast you get in the business world. Save that for later.
This interview would not be complete if we didn’t talk about guilt –do you feel a lot of guilt as a professional mom? What are your strategies for dealing with it?
I did feel a lot of guilt in the past! When my daughter was younger I really felt like I hardly spent any time with her and was pushing her off into the hands of strangers (no matter how wonderful they were). Looking back, I feel I was too wrapped up in my career and its trappings. I feel horrible about that, but I changed my life so that I could spend more time with her and still be fulfilled professionally, and I don’t feel guilty now.
