Anyone have any creative ideas for keeping a 1-year-old busy for about a three-hour stretch 1/wk while I get the chores done? I don't have naptime because that's set aside for homework. Ideas?

When my kids were little I would have my nephew, who is 9 years older then them, spend the night and the next day I would pay him to watch the boys while I cleaned and did stuff around the house. This worked out great for me because it gave my brother & his wife a night out and it gave me time to do my things. Usually $10 or so was great for him.

I am not a truck driver's wife but my dad was a truck driver and there were 10 of us kids. I don't know how she did it and I have to say I have as much respect for wives of truck drivers as I do our military families. Without either we would not be this great country. My mom always said that whether dad was home or a way their decisions about us kids were made together and they very rarely contradicted each other. And the rules did not change because dad was home. Hopefully your husband will be there for the delivery. But always remember consistency in parenting will make it easier for you when he isn't there.
