I choose for developmental and self-esteem value. I don't go for the character / fad toys. Dollslikeme.com has some excellent multicultural products (books, toys, etc.). This year I ordered an ethnic bride and groom doll for their dollhouse, since my kids have been interested in weddings lately. Also a couple of videos and books that sound interesting. Their main gifts from me, however, will be watches and swimsuits. I don't generally buy much in the way of toys, since they get a lot of toys from other people.
