I think the worst advice I've gotten has been the whole category of "leave it be, wait and see, they'll tell you when they're ready, give them the gift of time...." The correct advice would be "if you as their mother feel they are ready / it is time, then go for it; otherwise, no pressure, wait until you feel it's time." Just off the top of my head, I'd say that to a young mom about diet issues, potty training, reading, starting school, and many smaller matters. Oh, and a big one - visual learning - my kid was just not learning, and hearing that "she's within the range, wait and see" was unhelpful. I finally discovered vision therapy and it has made a huge difference. I'm glad I listened to my mom instincts rather than the "experts" etc.
