What is your favorite hobby or creative activity?”

  • One of my favorite creative activities is parenting. It requires creativity in general to phrase things in such a way that you get the response you want. My child enjoys creative banter, she encourages me to be funny, she begs me to tell her stories that I make up on the spot, she goads me into doing accents and telling her stuped jokes. She asks me questions that require both thought and speed to explain. I believe that parents set the tone for the relationship, and that it takes real creativity to build an open, loving parent-child dialogue. This is my favorite creative activity.

  • I spend a lot of time on the computer. I enjoy writing and website design. I'm not sure if you can call them hobbies as they are related to work, and they come so naturally to me, as a part of my day. More like a hobby is my photography, but this is beginning to be part of "work" as my photographs are being published in magazines and used by the Riding Federation in their handbooks. I was just introduced last week as the "official photographer" of the national dressage committee. Again, photography is a part of me, I've been doing it since I was 11, so I'm not sure if it is a "hobby". More like a real hobby would be quilt making. I took it up when my daughter was small. I haven't made one in a while, but I have projects brewing in my brain. One should shoot out my nose any day now.

  • I feel so boring. But my favorite creative activity is writing. And it happens also to be what I do for a living. It's just different types of writing for the creative hobby and for the work. I also have some paints in my office, which I have not yet had time to open. I am going to try playing with color. That is how I have to think of it, because if I think, "I am going to try to paint something," it starts getting difficult to breathe...
