I'm the managing editor for a group of home-building trade magazines. My stepdaughter (11) knows I'm the "mom" of the magazine's staff: I know the goings-on of everything. My stepson (6) says I make magazines. He thinks its cool that his last name appears in a magazine every month, but since the topic isn't Star Wars or Transformers he does't care about what I edit.

My kids know what I do; I teach. I brought my daughter with me a few times on Take Our Kids to Work Day. My son comes in on weekends with me if I have extra work to do. He likes hanging out in the Book Nook corner or drawing on the chalkboard.

My son, now 8, used to tell people that I make dot coms. Now he tells people that I make websites but that was so darn cute!

My kids are 9.5, 11, and 14. The youngest would say I work on the computer. The middle would say I am a writer. The oldest would say I am a medical editor, but he doesn't really know what I do.

My son is 17 and homeschools so he has a pretty good idea of what I do at home, but when I asked him he said 'You get to talk to other moms all day and get paid for it.' I wish all I had to do was talk LOL!

I'm going to ask my daughter right now... I asked, what do you think mommy does for work, and she said "Helps the people learn." She's right! LOL!

I just asked her. "You talk in a REAAALLLLL microphone and pay money (I think she meant make money) for groceries and..." then she made keyboard tapping motions with her fingers and got an evil grin on her face.

(I'm an editor in an ESL environment). Daughter desciribed it recently as, "You put the "the's" in, and then take some "the's" out, and then you rewrite everything in red. It's really boring. I don't know how you do it."
