1. If your house doesn't have air conditioning, keep all windows shut and blinds closed during the day. As soon as the sun sets, open everything up and the crosswinds will cool down the house. Make sure you shut everything again in the morning.

2. Wear lightweight, light-coloured cotton clothes. Dark colors attract the heat.

3. Eat small meals and eat more often. The larger the meal, the more metabolic heat your body creates while breaking down the food.

4. Avoid alcohol because it dehydrates the body. Also avoid drinks with caffeine such as coffee and colas as they increase the metabolic heat in the body. Drink plenty of water, even if you don't feel thirsty.

5. Eat spicy food - spicy food can stimulate heat receptors in the mouth, enhance circulation and cause sweating, which cools the body down.

6. Take a tepid bath or shower right before bed. Your body temperature drops when sleeping, so hot temperatures can hinder sleep.

7. Wear sunscreen. Not only does it protect you from sunburn, it keeps you cooler as it deflects the sun's rays.

8. If you prefer to exercise outdoors, do it in the early morning before it heats up.

9. Run your wrists under cold water every few hours. Major arteries run there, and it cools down your blood.

10. If you have a basement, hang out there during the hottest parts of the day, as basements are 10 to 15 degrees cooler than the rest of the house.
